Canal Area Maintenance Worker

Strömsholm Canal stretches from Smedjebacken in Dalarna to Borgåsund in Västmanland. The excavated canal is 1.2 miles long, but the entire fairway is 11 miles. With the help of 26 locks, boats are lifted or lowered the 100 meters that separate Lake Barken (Smedjebacken) from Lake Mälaren (Borgåsund). The canal company maintains the entire excavated canal section, handles the markings in the fairway, and also manages the various properties belonging to the canal. Strömsholm Canal was inaugurated in 1795 and was declared a listed building in 1990.

We are looking for someone who wants to help care for the canal banks and lock areas during the summer of 2026. This is an outdoor job along the beautiful Strömsholm Canal. Brushwood needs to be cleared, some trees need to be felled, and grass areas need to be kept mowed. Additionally, there are a few plantings that need care, and in some cases, you may assist with locking boats or canoes.
