Södertälje seeks consultant in Li-ion batteries – SOH & RUL (BEV)

We are seeking a consultant with strong expertise in Li-ion batteries to support the development of an MVP for “next-life” planning of used electric vehicles (BEV).

The focus is on assessing battery State of Health (SOH), estimating Remaining Useful Life (RUL), and translating these insights into business-oriented decisions regarding contract length, pricing, warranties, and residual value.

The team already has strong competencies in data science, software, and data engineering – therefore the emphasis in this role is on battery expertise and technical understanding.

Responsibilities

• Develop and validate models for SOH and RUL together with the analysis and engineering team
• Interpret battery degradation based on vehicle data
• Compare vehicle-based battery estimates (on-board) with external models (off-board)
• Analyze aging factors such as temperature, SOC, charging behavior, C-rate, load, and driving profile
• Define limitations and uncertainties in lifespan assessments
• Translate technical insights into business decisions (leasing, warranty, residual value, etc.)

Requirements profile

Must have:

• Relevant technical education in battery technology, electrochemistry, electrical engineering, materials science, or similar
• Deep knowledge of Li-ion batteries and degradation mechanisms
• Experience in battery lifespan analysis (calendar and cycle aging)
• Good understanding of SOH, RUL, capacity fade, and performance degradation
• Experience analyzing battery data from vehicles, BMS, or tests
• Ability to critically review models and assess their relevance
• Experience collaborating with both technical and business teams
• Good English in speech and writing

Meritorious:

• Experience with BEVs, especially commercial vehicles
• Experience with used vehicles, residual value, or second-life batteries
• Experience comparing on-board and off-board battery models
• Basic knowledge of Python, SQL, or similar

• Good communication skills – can explain complex technology clearly
• Ability to convert technical uncertainty into concrete business insights
