Folk High School Teacher in Silversmithing and Jewelry Art
Description
Do you want to work in a creative and vibrant environment where personal development is central? We are now looking for a teacher in silversmithing who wants to help shape and develop our arts and crafts courses together with us.
About the school
Helliden Folk High School is located just outside Tidaholm. The school has a boarding facility and focuses on education in art and crafts. Helliden is a movement-driven folk high school that originates from the Blue Ribbon Movement. We provide a zone free from alcohol and drugs, focusing on personal development and education. The school has two branches, one in central Tidaholm and one in Skövde's cultural district. Some of the school's courses are offered online via a learning platform. Our main school in Tidaholm has well-equipped workshops and classrooms, but the school also offers a unique environment as the main building is a castle from the late 19th century, and the castle park forms the school's outdoor area.
About the job
Our workshop accommodates both precise craftsmanship and artistic experimentation. We are looking for someone who wants to move freely between technique and idea, and who wants to invite others to an exploration where the expression is personal, investigative, and vibrant.
With us, the idea of adult education is central – we believe in learning through curiosity, exploration, and community. Here, people with different backgrounds, experiences, and goals meet. We create this space together.
About the role
As a teacher in jewelry art, craftsmanship is your foundation for realizing an artistic vision. You are interested in the borderland between the wearable and the sculptural and want to challenge your participants to explore their ideas and feel for materials. You teach jewelry art with a focus on silversmithing and guide participants in their artistic processes – from basic techniques to more independent and experimental work.
You need to enjoy working on several levels simultaneously and meeting participants who are at different stages in their artistic process, from beginners to more experienced. Many of our participants aim for higher studies in crafts and art.
You become part of a team on the arts and crafts course, where silversmithing is included together with Textile Art and Pattern Design and Ceramic Art. Part of the position involves meetings with other groups at the school and collaborations between teams.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a higher education degree in art
- Has very good and broad knowledge of silversmithing and work in the silver workshop
- Has experience in guiding artistic processes
- Has a willingness and desire to collaborate with participants and colleagues
- Has their own artistic practice
It is meritorious if you have:
- Knowledge of adult education, folk high school teaching experience, or a folk high school teaching degree
- Competence in additional artistic fields, such as drawing, arts and crafts history, design theory
- Pedagogical experience, preferably from adult education, and feel confident in a pedagogical role
As a person, we believe you:
- Are curious to meet people, regardless of where they are in life
- Want to collaborate, drive, and develop the operations together with colleagues
- Have the ability to create a safe and inspiring learning environment
- Thrive in a role where you work both independently and in close collaboration with others
With us, the participant is in focus. We value relationships, process, and presence over quick results.
