Machine Operator at Bjernareds Sawmill

Bjernareds Sawmill is in the middle of a growth journey, and now we are looking for a machine operator to join our production, primarily as a saw operator.

The company is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year and is a family-owned forest industry with a clearly niche production of planks and boards in long lengths. We are unique on the Swedish market and have customers across Europe. In recent years, we have grown and want to continue doing so through investments, increased production, and sales.

In recent years, the younger generation of the owning families has joined the business, and we are currently finalizing several major investments. We currently have 17 employees, many of whom have worked with us for a long time, which we are happy about.

Job Duties

As a machine operator, you are part of the most important part of the business – our production. From the forests of Halland, Småland, and Scania, we produce, among other things, construction timber and packaging boards sold to customers across Europe. Our processing consists of several work steps where each operator independently takes responsibility for the production and quality of our products.

Initially, you will work in our saw, which is the heart of production, and support when needed with forklift operation. At Bjernareds Sawmill, you work closely with your colleagues, where the different departments have a significant impact on the next step in the production chain. Initially, you will shadow our experienced sawyers during a training period. The goal is for you to independently operate the saw and maintain the required production pace while producing high-quality products without compromising on quality. Combined with sawing, forklift operation and other tasks will be part of your work. Forklift operation involves loading and unloading material on input/output conveyor belts. Here, you must keep the input belts full of timber to be processed while emptying the output belts with finished products and placing them in the correct storage location.

To create a more flexible and interesting workplace, we want as many of our staff as possible to be able to work with as many parts of production as possible. This means that over time, you will learn other parts of production and have a rotating work schedule. It may also involve further training, such as a deeper understanding of wood science.

Qualifications

Since the work is part of a continuously running production chain, it is very important that everyone takes responsibility for their tasks. Therefore, it is important that you are self-driven and have the ability to take your own responsibility. You are helpful towards your colleagues and should be proactive in seeing improvements and efficiencies, both in your own work and that of your colleagues.

It is highly meritorious for the position if you have a forklift license and experience, as well as experience/interest in mechanical work or industrial electronics. Troubleshooting in production occurs daily, and many machines require maintenance, so if you enjoy that, there are great opportunities to work more with it over time.

Additional merit is if you also have certification to operate wheel loaders or other heavy wheeled machinery.

The position is full-time and starts as soon as possible. Work is during daytime hours, potentially with some off-hours shifts every other week. The location is Bjärnared, Falkenberg Municipality.
