Robotics engineer

Cota Robotics is a venture-backed startup building AI-driven robots for retail. We are in an early phase with the first pilot customers, a small team, and high ambitions. We are backed by byFounders and work closely with our customers to take robotics from lab to real-world operation.

About the role

This is a foundational role. You are one of the first engineers and own the robotics development from start to finish — from requirements definition and system behavior to deployment and continuous improvement in the field.

You work closely with customers, collect data in real environments, and use it to fine-tune the Vision-Language-Action models that power our robots. The loop between field data and model performance is central to the role.

There is no established structure to inherit. You build it.

Your responsibilities

• Own the robotics development end-to-end: requirements, system design, implementation, and deployment
• Collect and structure training data in the field
• Fine-tune and evaluate VLA models based on real-world performance
• Support and improve ongoing pilot deployments at customers
• Help shape the team's technical culture and ways of working

We are looking for you who

• Have practical experience in robotics — software, systems, or a combination
• Are comfortable with the entire stack: perception, planning, control systems
• Have a genuine interest in machine learning and model-driven robotics
• Thrive in environments without ready-made answers and make decisions without waiting for instructions
• Want to be in early and shape something from the ground up

Meritorious

• Experience with VLA models or similar foundation models for robotics
• Previous work with deployment in real, operational environments
• Experience working in early startup phases
