Port Captain – responsible for sea traffic and coordination

Do you want a central role in ensuring efficient, safe and well-coordinated sea traffic? We are now looking for a Port Captain who will be a key person in our operations, with overall responsibility for coordinating sea traffic and managing nautical matters within the port area.

About the role

As Port Captain, you have a coordinating and responsible role where you act as the hub between shipping companies, vessels, authorities and the internal organization.

The role combines operational work in daily flow with overall responsibility for safety, regulations and structure within the sea traffic area.

The position is a full-time employment based in Trelleborg, where work is mainly carried out on site. The role includes being available outside office hours. The role reports directly to the CEO. It does not include personnel responsibility, but extensive own responsibility and a clear mandate within your area of responsibility.

Main duties

  • Coordinating sea traffic matters between shipping companies, vessels and port functions
  • Planning and allocating vessel berths on an ongoing weekly basis (Berth planning)
  • Responsible for ensuring that sea traffic is conducted efficiently and in accordance with applicable regulations
  • Managing protection and safety issues within the operational area
  • Responsible for authority contacts and compliance with laws, regulations and port rules
  • Being a contact point in nautical matters, both internally and externally
  • Contributing to the development of routines, processes and working methods within the sea traffic area


Your profile

We are looking for someone with strong nautical competence who thrives in a role where you get to combine structure, responsibility and collaboration between land and sea.

We believe you have:

  • Navigation Officer training or other relevant nautical education
  • Experience from shipping, for example as Master/Chief Officer or similar
  • Good understanding of sea traffic, port operations and regulations (ISPS)
  • Experience working with safety and authority matters

It is meritorious if you have experience working in a land organization or in a coordinating role.
