Ekhamraskolan is an independent compulsory school in Mariestad for grades 7-9. The school is located in the scenic Johannesberg area in Mariestad. The school has 196 students with 22 students per class. We have 18 employed educators plus student health services and school leadership. All educators are part of the same working team. Student health services and school leadership are close and accessible in daily life. The organization is well-founded based on a shared value system and approach rooted in research and success factors for school development. Ekhamraskolan has a well-developed pedagogical approach where students train to become responsible, independent, and reflective.

Job Duties and Personal Qualities

We are looking for staff with qualifications primarily in Math and Science. All teaching qualifications are of interest as the organization is flexible and adaptable. You will be a mentor for a mixed-age mentor group with about 13-15 students, whom you meet every day and are responsible for development discussions as well as regular mentor meetings and support in school daily life. Primarily, you will teach mathematics and science subjects in grades 7-9, depending on how the organization together resolves the whole. You are responsible, together with other staff, for the school's social mission and see it as an important part of your work. You are independent in your teaching assignment but see the importance and strive to work together with your colleagues. Being where the students are is a given for you and something you strive for because you understand that students need adults around them to develop into responsible and socially competent citizens.

You understand the importance of long-term, lifelong learning and not just learning to meet grade 9 knowledge requirements. You like to help with things that exist in a school without it being directly linked to your subject qualifications. We help each other at the school to create a pleasant, safe, and developmental learning environment in all areas.

Employment Conditions

We work 9 hours per day, from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. You agree with your colleagues on when it is convenient to take breaks. You eat together with students and colleagues and are always available for students' questions and needs. You thus receive pay for all time you spend at your workplace. You have vacation and compensatory leave during autumn break, Christmas holiday, sports break, Easter break, and summer break. You work an average of 30-36 hours/week when spread over a school year.

Working hours and employment conditions are regulated by a local collective agreement signed by Friskolan i Mariestad, Sveriges Lärare, and Almega Utbildning.

The entire organization is based on creating conditions for students to develop and providing them support in this process. It is not just knowledge that students need to succeed, now and in the future. The school has four profile choices (outdoor life, aesthetics, nature-technology, and international relations) where you participate in planning and carrying out activities aimed at increasing well-being and foundation for goal achievement.
