BalticWaters is seeking summer staff for the role of laboratory assistant at BalticWaters Fish Laboratory in Studsvik. As a laboratory assistant, you thrive with practical tasks and supporting the daily work within the laboratory's ongoing projects. You are meticulous, solution-oriented, and have good collaboration skills. We are looking for someone passionate about Baltic Sea issues and who wants to contribute to project work during the summer of 2026.
Your Responsibilities
We are looking for someone who enjoys and is driven by supporting colleagues and wants to work with animals in a scientific environment. Examples of tasks include:
- Supervision of fish, eggs, and larvae
- Care of plant and animal plankton cultures and feeding of fish at various life stages
- Monitoring and follow-up of water values
- Assisting with sampling
- Assisting with any field work
- Supervision and maintenance of equipment
- On-call duty
Your Qualities
To fit the role, you need to be solution-oriented and ready to tackle problems as they arise. You enjoy working in a team as well as planning your work independently, and you are meticulous and willing to take responsibility and initiative. You have a higher education, or experience, in biology. It is advantageous if you have studied laboratory animal science or have completed a course that qualifies you to work with laboratory animals. A B driver's license and good skills in English (spoken and written) are required.
About the Employment
The operations are largely governed by natural conditions, meaning that working hours may vary. You are expected to be able to work both weekdays and weekends. The employment is a seasonal position at 100% working hours. The high season falls during the period from June 1 to mid-August. It is beneficial if the employment can start in May to allow for training.
