Teacher in after-school center
Description
BMSL is a multilingual preschool and elementary school with instruction according to the Swedish curriculum. From the age of one to ninth grade, our students pass through the same door here in central Lund. This provides security and continuity for both students, teachers, and parents. Perhaps it explains why many students see the school as their second home. Well-being and community are important to us. We want to be the school that students long to attend. A place for discoverers, researchers, and independent innovators.
At BMSL, students encounter a multilingual and international environment. Here, teachers speak Swedish, English, and French – and through our language immersion method, students have the opportunity to develop their language skills in a natural way. This means that the French teacher always communicates in French and the English teacher always in English, whether the meeting takes place in the classroom, during after-school activities, in the hallway, or out on the playground. Our language educators have the language as their mother tongue and give students an authentic language experience every day.
In addition to language immersion, we work with Montessori pedagogy as one of several tools to help students achieve the goals in the curriculum. But above all, our ambition is to give each child the best conditions for the future – by offering a stimulating learning environment, creating security, and sparking curiosity. Our driving force is to provide students with the tools they need to develop their full potential.
Today, there are 44 children in preschool and 420 students in elementary school grades F-9, with about 220 students in the after-school center. Educators and children/students come from different countries and diverse cultures. BMSL is a very stimulating and dynamic workplace.
About the role
We are looking for a teacher in the after-school center who is passionate about their profession. Someone who creates a safe and stimulating environment for our students. You are a person who promotes students' development and contributes to their social skills. You enjoy challenging students by allowing them to explore their interests and introducing them to new ones. This is also demonstrated in the classroom during the day where you support students during school hours and in recess activities.
Job duties
- Lead the daily work of the after-school center based on the curriculum and set goals.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate the instruction in the after-school center.
- Create a safe and respectful environment where each student feels seen and heard.
- Collaborate with other educators and create a cohesive learning environment.
- Communicate regularly with guardians to ensure an open dialogue about their child's progress and needs.
- Support students in the classroom during school hours.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who are a licensed teacher in the after-school center and have experience working closely with students, with a deep understanding of their needs and development. You have a natural ability to create and lead activities that are both stimulating and creative, and you are passionate about giving students meaningful experiences in their daily lives.
Your communicative strength and collaboration skills mean you contribute positively to the team's work, and your commitment to children's learning and well-being is something that truly distinguishes you. You have good knowledge of the school's governing documents and use them naturally in your work.
As an educator, you take responsibility for your own development, because you know that reflection and learning are crucial for making a real difference. You follow up on your teaching and constantly work to become even better.
Since English is one of our main languages, we prefer that you have English as your mother tongue, but also that you can understand and express yourself in Swedish.
We offer
A stimulating and developmental work environment where you get the opportunity to make a real difference for students' futures. Continuous professional development and collegial support and collaboration in an engaged team of professional colleagues, as well as great opportunities to be involved in shaping and developing BMSL's after-school activities.
