Law Student - Part-Time Job
Description
Cigar Club is a private members club for cigar enthusiasts and our core business is far from chesterfield sofas and velvet red walls, instead we are immersed in legal matters.
We are skilled in administrative law and win close to 80% of our cases within the framework of OSL for example, when we don't, we regularly reprimand authorities.
If that weren't enough, we handle several high-profile cases, we are currently at the court of appeal in a damages case against a municipality (we are the plaintiff) and have just received the court of appeal's decision in another case in PMÖD regarding tobacco marketing where we are again the plaintiff. We have a real chance of reaching the Supreme Court, a full 10% instead of the usual 2%. Here too, we are the plaintiff.
We are looking for you if you have a genuine interest in law, you are a law student (this is a requirement). Smoking cigars is not an advantage, quite the opposite. Depending on your competence, you will assist with various legal tasks, dull and monotonous tasks and sometimes more complex ones. If it turns out you are better at something than us, you will take on greater responsibility in that area.
We operate within a complex legal framework and work according to strict routines. It is important that you are compliant and lack the impulse to react. Your most important quality is that you can take a step back when unsure to find correct information instead of solving the task on the spot. You enjoy taking directives and do not feel limited if you cannot color outside the lines.
The only time we prefer speed over quality is when there's a fire (meaning not in a hurry but when one needs to call 112).
So you are comfortable not having the full picture and all variables, and you are encouraged to take your time to make decisions. This is part of our DNA.
The reason is simple, we operate within a complex legal framework - legislators have not considered that businesses like ours exist and to make matters worse, we have a number of different civil law agreements that limit us in one way or another. Shooting from the hip is not something we do. We work calmly and methodically.
We see that you study at a higher education institution and law studies are required. Smoking cigars is not a merit at all as we mentioned before. We do not want overlaps between staff and potential customers/members.
A word of warning to young people born around the turn of the millennium. If you are someone who would like to see a career ahead at one of Sweden's most prestigious firms but at the same time talk about work-life balance, want a ball pit in the office, and other nonsense, you will get a rude awakening. When we work, we work. It is a high-stakes game with a lot of pressure and small margins for error. We are extremely clear, you will notice if we are satisfied with your work, and if you have made a correct assessment of the situation but gotten a crazy outcome, you will definitely get support. If you rush through your job or think deadlines are a recommendation, you will quickly become aware that it is not particularly appreciated.
If you are the type of student who emails the teaching lecturer to submit a take-home exam on another day because you have other things to do, then you shouldn't even bother applying for the job.
We have previously had law students with us and been very satisfied, it has been a good platform for fresh students before taking the step to become a student employee at a larger firm during the summer.
Recruiters need not contact us.
We are by no means a gentlemen's club and are not particularly fond of male bonding. Your personality as an applicant is crucial. Your gender is not.
We do not accept visitors. Physically submitted applications will be discarded. We also do not respond to applications that do not meet formalities (you must figure out yourself what an application should contain at a minimum). Applications that do not meet our requirements go straight into the trash, without a response.
Have you had a so-called "crap job" in your younger years? Good! That is an advantage.
